KTM was founded by Hans Trunkenpolz in 1934 in Mattighofen, Austria. It started as a small metalworking and motorcycle repair workshop called Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen (that’s where the name KTM comes from). In 1953, KTM produced its first motorcycle, and after Trunkenpolz’s death, Ernst Kronreif became a key partner, helping the brand grow globally. Over time, KTM became famous for its powerful, lightweight bikes and its unstoppable attitude in motocross, enduro, and racing, living by the bold slogan: “Ready to Race.”
